Jenna's Last Day of Freedom

On Jenna's last day of freedom, we went and had mani-pedis.  Jenna picked some cool colors, and the girls at the salon put flowers on for free.  We also spent some time shopping for accessories and last minute school clothes and supplies.  She picked up some fun accessories for her outfits.  It was great to have one last mother-daughter outing before school starts tomorrow.  Jenna is super fun to shop with too.

Middle School Countdown...

Tuesday was Jenna's last day of freedom, and we made the most of it.  With Heather at school Jenna and I set out like Bonnie and Clyde to see what we could get done.  Well, not Bonnie and Clyde, but you get the picture.  Jenna had been asking for a manicure, and she really needed a hair cut.  So, we did both.  The manicure was fabulous, but the hair cut wasn't so great.  The gal kind of hurt Jenna's head, so Jenna wasn't bummed when the power went out before the blow dry was done.  We paid and skid-addled out of there to do some more last minute shopping.

Jenna has been waiting since her ear piercing to be able to change her earrings.  We had coupons for Clarie's, and we drove over to buy some earrings.  Jenna knows what she likes, and she was able to pick out several styles as well as this handy earring display (she loves owls right now).  I love that she has a sense of style that includes her clothes, hair and accessories.   She may just have a job in the fashion industry one day.

Choosing Modesty

Isn't bathing suit shopping fun?  Not.  I dread it due to my white skin and extra size, and I've come to dread it a little bit with my girls.  They look fabulous in bathing suits, don't get me wrong.  It's finding one that doesn't try to look like a future Victoria's Secret model (which to me is a ridiculous concept at age 10 or 12--no offense to anyone who doesn't agree).  Poor Heather had an awful time this year, finally found something, and had it nearly fall off in the pool.  She's in the weird in-between-kids-and-adult-sizes stage.  We ended up on the Justice For Girls website and got her a one piece that was not too cutsie, and something she felt totally comfortable in.  Jenna loves any fashion, but she is committed to modesty.  We found this darling two-piece tankini that was long enough to cover her stomach.  She was so excited to find a tankini that wasn't backless or bikini-like.  She squealed with delight when she found this, and she happily posed for a picture when she wore it for the first time.
