Scarlet at Six Months

This pup is growing and continuing to give us her love and energy. She wants to be as close to us as possible, and sometimes that means in our lap or even on TOP of us! Jenna was doing homework one day when Scarlet found her appealing, and the only way to get close to her (her lap was occupied by the computer) was to climb on top of her. She loves Kelly the mostest because he plays and rough-houses with her. She just climbs right up in his lap. Scarlet is a little different than Sariah in this way. Sariah wanted to be near us, but she was content with putting her body next to a leg or a foot. She didn't climb on the couch ever. She loved her bed and would cozy up there when we were all in the living room. Scarlet wants to be in our laps, will climb right up on the couch and isn't interested in a dog bed at all. The only place she is comfortable is in a lap, right next to us on the couch, or on the couch by herself. She will not go near the dog bed, nor will she curl up on the floor unless she's on a foot.  So crazy, but she loves us.

This Dog of Ours - Scarlet 5 Months

Scarlet does not care that the couches are made of leather, that she is a warm body or that it's 100 degrees in the house.  She wants her cuddle time. She is more cuddly than Sariah ever was. Sariah wanted to be near us, but not exactly on us. This dog wants to be connected to us. When winter comes and we're cold, that cuddly body heat will be nice.  We spent a lot of time camping with her this month. That post is under the San Elijo heading. We're enjoying her sweetness immensely.

Scarlet at Three Months

Puppy naps and puppy snuggles. She sleeps or plays and when she plays, it can sometimes get muddy. Sariah didn't dig, but this pup likes the water and dirt combo. Too bad I didn't catch her until she'd muddied the floor. She also seems to find short cuts to eating when she's tired. That cracked us up. When we took her to the vet for shots, Kelly had to hold her because, who knew? Puppy pads pick up germs and can transfer to the pup before six months. So he held her large self in his lap. We better get her shots done fast! She's going to be too big for laps soon. Why is it that I don't know if she'll think she's too big? Her daddy thought he was a lap dog and still does. He's like 100 pounds.

A Visitor For Spring Break

We received a call just before Easter that our buddy Boca needed a place to stay for the week. The dog-sitting home where she was scheduled to go had an unexpected emergency, and the family was headed off for Spring Break. Having had Boca in our home before, we were delighted to accommodate the request. As you can see from the photos, she fell right back into place with Sariah and the rest of our family. She is a really sweet dog, and we love having her around. Sariah is pretty happy as well. It was sad to say goodbye at the end of the week.

Sariah - Week 11

Sariah is continuing to grow at a rapid rate.  We are true puppy lovers as evidenced by the holiday collar she had to have.  She is exploring the yard more and less skiddish when she hears birds, other barking or loud car noises.  She got into the unwrapping of her gifts with great gusto.  We are discovering her intelligence as we've taught her a few tricks that she picks up on the first day she's trained.  She can sit, shake and come.  She's pretty smart about the potty training, but she still has at least one accident a week.  This breed is definitely motivated by food, and Sariah is most attentive when she knows there is food in your hand.  Her walks are more successful when she remembers we have treats.  She still loves to snuggle and play and when she's not nipping at our pants, we have a great time with her.  Her vet visit on 12/17 had her weighing 15.7 pounds.  She was 8.4 just three weeks ago,  which verifies what we're seeing.  She is expected to be full size by 9 months.

Sariah - Week 10

We're in holiday preparation mode this week, so not many pictures of Sariah.  The best description of this week in her life is that she is in to EVERYTHING.  These two photos were taken just after I brought groceries in from the car.  She was immediately into the bags and had one of the butter cubes chewed through within seconds as I finished unloading.  The other shot is of a 5 lb. bag of potatoes that she pulled across the kitchen floor and proceeded to attack.  She is either sleeping or in play mode which means destruction if she isn't being supervised.  I am hoping to decorate for Christmas soon, but everything on the priority list is on the "next-most-important" order.  Decorating comes after shower, errands, laundry and general clean-up.  I'm determined to get it done before Christmas!  We did take Sariah down to meet Lady, our neighbor's new Golden Retriever puppy.  We didn't let them touch or play with each other, but we figured an introduction was in order since they are the same age.

Sariah - Week 9

We have noticed so much growth in just the past week!  Our puppy's paws are huge, and she is not going to be fitting on the front seat of the car much longer.  Sariah still prefers cuddling with us, but if we can't be there, she'll let us know she wants up on her blanket on the couch.  She loves her toys, especially her green snake.  We liked that toy because we can hold one end of it and keep our hands from her razor sharp teeth!  She doesn't bite on purpose, but we have gotten our hands caught in her teeth a few times.  She explores with her teeth also, and she is into whatever she can find lying around on the ground.  She got to a piece of Jenna's homework one night (luckily, she was going to toss it), and we had a good time laughing about the "dog eating her homework."  It happens!  We're starting to close bedroom and bathroom doors to keep our shoes and other items safe from puppy exploration.  It's a non-stop job!  Between making sure the puppy gets outside for potty trips and making sure she doesn't destroy something in one of the bedrooms, I am not getting much accomplished.  This is seriously like having a toddler under foot!

Sariah - Week 8

This is Sariah's second week as a Peterson, and her schedule continues to be a pretty much eat-sleep schedule.  Her favorite place to fall asleep is cuddled up next to one of us if not on top of one of us.  We tried taking her out for a walk down the side walk which wasn't awfully successful, but we have to start somewhere.  She doesn't seem to love the car, but if we bring her blanket, she seems more comfortable.  We are in love.

Sariah Week 7

Sariah's first week with us was really cute.  We brought her home just as she was rounding the 7-week mark, so she was still pretty tiny and sleeping a lot.  She wanted to be where we were and usually fell asleep on us.  There wasn't much to do during this first week except love her.  She has the sweetest personality, just like the breeder told us.  It won't be long before we will look back on these photos to remember when our big puppy was just a tiny thing.
