Valentine's Day

Pulled off Valentine's Day decor, dinner and dessert in one day. We've been so busy I had pretty much forgotten to be prepared. It all worked out, and Kelly brought home some flowers for the women. Tradition saved! Whew!

My Funny Valentine

Valentine's Day was on Sunday, February 14. On Saturday evening, when many Valentines were out on dates celebrating, my Valentine and I sat in an ER waiting room. We had a rocking good time. Not! Kelly had been having pain in his chest and back and could hardly move. So, we played it safe since he has heart issues.  The masks were the best--Kelly wore his because he had a fever, and I wore one to keep from getting sick. Doctor ruled out heart related issue and guesses an infection of some type that may have settled near his chest. We ended the night at Jack-in-the-Box and Walgreens for prescriptions. An expensive date, but glad he's okay. On Monday, he bought me flowers. Not a typical celebration, but one that makes a good story. Haha.

Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day started out with a headache, literally. I woke up with a pounding throb and promptly reached for the Excedrine. I did manage to have a small treat and card for the girls and hub on their dinner plates, and Kelly brought home flowers.  He and I also attending a performance of "Into The Woods" in Brea that night where our friend, Tara Pitt, was starring as the Baker's Wife. It was a fun day and even though it started out rocky, I'm grateful to have been able to make the best of this day of love.

Valentine's Day

We started our Valentine's Day in the usual manner with a heart path leading to the kitchen table for breakfast.  The girls found a treat on the table, and we had a nice breakfast.  Since it was a school day, we didn't do anything fancy (mom actually forgot the heart pancakes).  Jenna has been so enamored with the new toaster that she didn't even remember heart pancakes.  Heather has begun to crave protein to sustain her in the morning, so she had a scrambled egg.  I love doing a special morning of love for my girls.

One new thing I tried was an idea I found on Pinterest.  Beginning February 1, I taped a heart to each girl's mirrored closet door each day while they were out of their room (the original ideas was to put them on the bedroom door).  Each heart says something that is special about that daughter.  I had a couple of extra hearts that I put up on Valentine's Day including one that said, "Happy Valentine's Day."  They haven't said anything about the hearts, but I do catch them reading once-in-a-while.  I hope they liked their special notes.

We didn't do a special dinner.  I was at Volleyball with Heather, and Kelly was at Soccer with Jenna.  Thank goodness OCMCO took the night off.  We had a late dinner with candles, so at least we kept that tradition.  Kelly and I will need a date night soon to make up for it.

Teenager? & Pinterest Decor

Sunday, Monday and Tuesday were marked by the snarkiness of my preteen. What is snarkiness you ask? It's when your sweet, adorable first born turns into a sassy miss bordering on disrespectful. I wanted to let it go, but found myself reminding her now and then to be careful. I explained what a button was and what pushing someone's button meant. Disrespect is one of my buttons. When I went to bed Tuesday night, I found this sticky on the calendar with a decorated white board adjacent to it marking more self-awesomeness. I just laughed and wondered when it would pass. The answer is, today. She woke up sick and has been down and subdued. Whenever Jenna is tantruming (out of sorts) overly so, I usually can tell she's going to get sick the next day. Does snarky equal pre-sick? I wish. Unfortunately, I think there's more to come, and this just happened to be a coincidence. At least we can say that Heather does not have self-esteem issues.

In other news, Valentine's Day came and went with minimal decor. I had to hang this today, though. I had seen it on Pinterest, contacted the artist, and ordered one for our family. I just love it. It's still the month of love, so it can hang for a while in all it's cuteness. Although they look about the same color, the top heart is lavender and the second is pink.

Day of Love

It's Valentine's Day! Happy Valentine's Day to all our loved ones. We have no decorating going on to speak of, but I did crawl up into the rafters to pull down our box of decorations so that the girls could have their "heart path" from their bedroom to breakfast. I managed to pick up a couple of treats last night and get a cute table set. We had heart shaped pancakes for breakfast and finished Valentine's for friends as we were running out the door. More rehearsals tonight for mom, but we'll squeeze in a candlelight taco dinner before I leave. xoxo

The Day of Love

The morning began with a heart path from the girls' room out to the table where they found heart-shaped pancakes and a little gift of new lip gloss waiting for them. Being a school holiday, we had all day to do what we wished. Unfortunately, that meant Jenna waited around a while while Heather and mom sat at the table doing catch-up homework. After that was done, we squoze in a quick trip to Payless and Target for a little girls' shoppin' time.

We ended the day with a fancy table and Valentine's Day cards. Kelly brought home a bouquet of roses for his "women" which the girls thought was really fun. We had leftover pot roast, mashed potatoes, carrots and some sparkly lemonade in fancy glasses. Our family night lesson was on personal testimonies, and our 9-year-old showed us that she did indeed understand what a testimony was. We all enjoyed each other's company and had quite a wonderful day of love.
