Edison Bell week this week. Jenna had some absences, but she made it for Edison Nerd Day. Cutest nerd ever. Abby was pretty cute too!

Mole Day - Who Knew?

Chemistry class offered extra credit to create a mole and bring it to school at 6:02 a.m. on 10/23.  What the heck you say?  Well here's the thing. Mole Day is an unofficial holiday celebrated by chemistry teachers, students, enthusiasts, etc.  The time and date are derived from Avogadro's number, which is approximately 6.02 × 1023, defining the number of particles (atoms or molecules) in one mole of substance, one of the seven base SI units.  Thank you Wikipedia. I have to say that the artistry of my daughter is exceptional.  She created the mole using cornstarch, conditioner and food coloring. It is the CUTEST thing ever and so creative. We drove it to school and arrived before 6:00 a.m. I thought she'd be alone, but there were TONS of students. This really is a nutty chemistry thing.

Jenna - VB Game

Jenna had some games while Heather and I were in Idaho. Kelly took some great video. Although the blog doesn't print video, it is obvious that Jenna had a power swing going during this game. So proud of her!

It's Blue and Gold week at the High School, and the Freshman and Seniors were the Blue Team. Here are the girls dressed for Theme Park Thursday! So cute!

The Getty Center

Today was Heather's AP Art History field trip to The Getty Center. This is the larger of the museums and it houses a more varied collection. It's up on a hill, and we rode a tram up to the top. The grounds were spectacular, and the art work was so interesting. We had a great time! Last school field trip for me and my girl. What a cutie she is, and how blessed we were to spend this time together.

Post Final Disneyland Visit

Having a day off of school when finals are over is magical, so we went to the Magic Kingdom to celebrate.  Jodi, Kenzie, Heather, Jenna, Abbey and I went to spend the day. We had so much fun with our friends!

Hamlet

Tonight we went to see Hamlet presented by our high school theater department. The Honors and AP English classes assigned the play for extra credit, but we got a bonus. Not only did our girls get extra credit, we got to see best friends, MacKenzie and Madi, play Hamlet and Polonius. They did a great job! Memorizing Shakespeare is no easy task! Good work ladies!

First Volleyball Banquet

We attended Jenna's first volleyball banquet tonight. Jenna was a co-captain and presented her coach's award with Jenelle. It was fun to have MacKenzie and Julia on the team with her as well as other friends she's knew in middle school. She made new friend, too. We were proud of the way Jenna held her head high tonight as she was completely overlooked by her coach in terms of her contribution to the team. She wasn't recognized as a captain and when her coach began speaking about Jenna, we didn't even know he was talking about her, and I missed getting a photo of her. He said something about her coming in the gym and getting her shoes on and being ready to work. Nothing about her setting or blocking or her skill on the court. She started every game and played full rotation every single match. She was such a major factor on her team, but she went completely overlooked. That's the way it goes. We talked about it in the car on the way home. She knew she had played well and had contributed. And she plays because of her love of the game, not because of awards or recognition. To sum it up, the parents were annoyed, but Jenna was a superstar. She took it in stride and is looking forward to club season.

Stan Lee Day 1 and The Bell Game

Heather and Mackenzie attended Stan Lee's Comic Con after school today. It's a smaller Con, but still fun to walk around and wear the cosplay. Her Victorian Steampunk cosplay was amazing. She ended up being photographed by a professional photographer.  We pieced that cosplay together, and it looked like a super cohesive outfit. I love helping her put these outfits together.

In the evening, we took Jenna to her first Bell Game, Fountain Valley vs. Edison. We got creamed, but hey! It's the Bell Game so, ya gotta go. Sarah and Jenna had fun dressing for Twin Day as a part of spirit week as well as painting her face at the game. We sat with our friend, Michelle, and we ran into our Ocean View bff, Grace. Jenna sat with her friends, and we got a fun picture in the parking lot afterward. It was a festive night and a right of passage for our newest Freshman.

Homecoming!

Heather is not one for school events and, let's face it, the dating scene is pretty quiet on campus. When it comes to school dances, if you have a boyfriend, you go. If you don't, you don't unless you're fortunate enough to have a brave boy ask who doesn't mind spending the money. Heather hasn't cared about going, but as this is her senior year, she and her friends decided they needed to experience Homecoming. They all bought tickets and went together. We met at Kenzie's house for pictures, and everyone looked gorgeous.

The dance was pretty fun. The actual dancing was not that fun, but there was a karaoke room where a lot of the kids went and sang show tunes all night and that made the evening fun.  Glad she got the experience.

Homecoming Court Friend

Heather's girlfriend, Grace, was nominated to the Homecoming Court at Ocean View HS. We went to support her and watch their high school game. She looked so beautiful!

J. Paul Getty Museum

Heather and I got to go on her AP Art History field trip together. The Getty is BEAUTIFUL, and it was amazing to chaperone and get to experience the beauty. The Greek and Roman architecture is stunning, and Heather was in her element. Who knew there would be a grown up field trip in high school that we could both go on.

Jenna's 8th Grade Graduation

Our baby graduated, or was promoted, today! Yay! She did an amazing job navigating middle school with confidence and super good grades.  This was a day where we documented not only her promotion, but the sheer number of friends this girl has. What a great group moving on to high school together!  We're so proud of you Jenna! We can't wait to see what amazing things you do in high school!
