Tree, Lights and Other Events

12•9  We drove over to Home Depot and selected our fresh tree. The girls have had fresh now and don't want to go back. Kelly got the lights put on right away, good man that he is. It took me forever to decorate (possibly the few days before Christmas), but we did get a new ornament or two, so those hung on our bare tree until the other decor adorned the branches.

12•10  Our annual trek to the Los Angeles LDS Temple to see the Christmas lights. We wondered this time if the trek is worth it because by the time we've gathered, braved the freeways and served dinner, there are merely minutes for the kids to walk the grounds before we're back in the cars to make it home before 9:00 p.m. The youth love the adventure and have a really good time. Next year we may check out our Newport Beach Temple and see what they do on the grounds for decor.

12•11  Our building hosted the first every Creche event for the communities of  Fountain Valley and Huntington Beach. Hundreds of nativity sets were displayed for the public and musical performances continued throughout the viewing period. There was a craft room for the little ones, and outside was a live nativity that occurred every thirty minutes (sans animals). The event ran from 5:00 - 9:00 p.m. for three consecutive nights, and we may have had more community members attend than LDS members. It was very popular, and I think we'll see it again done next year. Kelly was working the lighting for the nativity and ushering when he wasn't on lighting duty. Angie and Derek came over one night, and we drove over to meet them. It was a nice break in our hectic week.
