WonderCon Take 2

Heather, MacKenzie and I spent the afternoon at WonderCon in Anaheim. This was our 2nd WonderCon, and it was just as fun as the first time. Last year, Heather dressed in her Sherlock coat and scarf and I in my Thor t-shirt. This year Heather's costume is from Attack on Titan, a favorite anime series. The girls had a blast walking around, buying souvenirs, and spotting people dressed up as other favorite characters. I found a police box of my own to snap a photo in. We also met an author/artist who does beautiful paintings of dragons. Her name is Heather also, and we found her later on line. She does Disney princesses and has written a steampunk children's book as well. Very, very beautiful artwork. Another great day at WonderCon!

Fan Girls

Ever since my Twilight days, I've been on the invite list for some movie premieres associated with that time.  Stephenie Meyer was the one who recommended The Hunger Games to the Twilight fans, so the premiere of all the Hunger Games movies have been events that my Twilight friend, Sarah, has orchestrated. We have fun staying in touch with all of the Twilight Mom fans we made way back before the movies came out, and often we pay a little extra for a private theater so we don't have to put up with the silliness that can be found during many theater viewing experiences with teens and kids.

I knew that Heather and her friends would want to go to the Mocking Jay premiere, so we made a fun girl's night of it. My daughter who looks so much like her dad has an inner fangirl, just like her momma. It is fun to go to these premieres, and now it's uber fun that I can share them with Heather.

Friends and Passions

Jenna and Sarah have so much fun together.  They are both passionate about make up and nails right now.  They got together for a sleepover and experimented with make up.  I found a number of selfies on the camera roll, so I chose a couple of them to remember this period of time by.  Jenna has been so creative with her nails this summer.  I love this little tuxedo design.  She doesn't like me to take pictures of her nails if they aren't perfect.  She doesn't understand how good they are or how even her beginning designs with their little mistakes are virtually unnoticeable to others.  We're goo busy being impressed.  We got in a little more friend time with a lunch at Mimi's too.  Summer is so fun with no school schedule to dictate our days.

Penelope is Heather's "Marvel Buddy," and the girls went to the premiere of the latest Marvel movie, Guardians of the Galaxy.  It was the night before their 10th grade year was to start, but no worries.  It was their last day of freedom, and they were enjoying it!  I love that these girls share this passion for movies and fandom.  It's awesome!

WonderCon!

Heather and I met the Mosher family in Anaheim today for WonderCon, a smaller version of ComicCon.  This convention is centered more around comic books and related material than the big, blockbuster movies that have come to be a major part of ComicCon in San Diego.  Heather mostly wanted to walk around and shop for comic books, which we did.  We also met an author who wrote a great dragon-themed poetry book, sat in on a panel for Teen Titans, and visited amazing art exhibits including robot builders who created their own R2-D2!  We had a lot of fun roaming around and may even do it next year.

Captain America Date

Captain America, The Winter Soldier was released recently.  Kelly and Heather took the first opportunity possible to make a date and go see it.  I love my theme-loving girl!  She looked so cute.  The movie was great, and they had a great time together.  Heather's daddy is her very own Captain America.

Donny and Marie

Do you remember Donny and Marie? We used to watch their show each week on television. I loved their voices, the comedy, and I thought Marie was so pretty! Donny was kinda cute too. My sister and I got the dolls and t.v. stage one year for Christmas, and I was so excited. I can still hear their voices saying, "Good night everyone!"

So what's a girl to do when she randomly hears on the radio that Donny and Marie are going to be at the Huntington Beach Walmart on May 19 signing their new CD? Well, go of course! I called my friend, Michelle, who I knew was a Donny fan, and we put it on the calendar. We lined up an hour before the signing, and the line was already three aisles deep. We weren't sure if they would pull a crowd here, but they sure did! Television crews, security and all. They were both so warm and friendly, and Donny's voice, whoa! So velvety and deep. I'm so glad we went!
