Walk Through The Revolution

The fifth grade classes studied the American Revolution at the end of the school year. Part of their assignment was to choose a character from the AR, write a first person paragraph, and memorize it to present on a special "Walk Through The Revolution" event. Parents were invited to attend the event, and the kids dressed in period costumes representing their special person.

The kids walked to the "bowl" area to present their person to the parents. They stood in a circle around the bowl and as parents came up to ask them who they were, the kids recited their memorized material.

Heather chose Sybil Ludington, the female Paul Revere. She rode twice the distance that Paul Revere did and was only sixteen years old at the time. She was able to round up enough soldiers to maintain the offensive position at some key battles. Because Sybil was a girl, she was forgotten in history for a time.

The kids got to mingle with one another at a luncheon after the recitations.

This was a fantastic activity that Heather was very excited about. She worked so hard and will never forget her important person's role in the American Revolution!
